Samsung Drops OneDrive, Taps Google Photos for Galaxy Backup
Samsung has started rolling out an update to its Gallery app that integrates directly with Google Photos for automatic photo and video backup. This change is happening as Samsung's partnership with Microsoft, which allowed for OneDrive integration, comes to an end on September 30.
To enable the new feature, users need to open the Samsung Gallery app, tap Menu, then Settings, and select Sync photos and videos. They will then be prompted to connect their Google account and grant permission for Samsung to sync their photos and videos with Google.
The integration allows users to selectively sync specific local folders or disable syncing of the main camera roll while still syncing other folders. However, this is not a full browser for Google Photos within Gallery.
Samsung makes it easy to switch off the new feature if desired, allowing users to prevent new backups and still access photos already backed up in their Google account.
