Samsung Teams Up with Waymo for Autonomous Driving Computing Platform
Samsung Electronics has partnered with Waymo to provide automotive memory semiconductors for its next-generation autonomous driving computing platform. The partnership was announced on October 20th, alongside AMD, Micron, Nvidia, SanDisk, and TSMC.
The Waymo Driver platform uses a 5-nanometer ASIC that processes data from cameras, lidar, and radar in real time within the vehicle. This chip delivers over 1,000 TOPS of machine learning performance.
Samsung Electronics has been expanding its automotive memory portfolio since entering the market in 2015. The company's product lineup now includes low-power DRAM, NAND flash-based storage, and UFS used in infotainment and ADAS applications.
