Senator Bernie Sanders has voiced his support for legislation aimed at Amazon, criticizing the company's practices and profits. According to Sanders, Amazon made more than $92 billion in the first half of this year while using 'legal loopholes' to deny its workers their constitutional right to unionize.

Amazon Delivery Worker Bill

New York City Council Member Tiffany Caban introduced the Delivery Protection Act, which aims to increase oversight of facilities handling last-mile deliveries and require operators to obtain licenses from the city's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection. The bill targets Amazon's use of Delivery Service Partners (DSPs), independent businesses that employ drivers who deliver Amazon packages.

Amazon has pushed back against the proposal, warning it could hurt local small businesses and threaten more than 5,000 jobs. The company claims the legislation would force it to consider moving delivery operations outside New York City, potentially resulting in slower and more expensive deliveries for customers.
