Sanders Joins NYC Mayor's Fight Against Amazon's Contract Labor Practices

US Senator Bernie Sanders has thrown his support behind New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's proposed Delivery Protection Act, aimed at holding Amazon accountable for its subcontractor network. The bill seeks to license last-mile delivery facilities and regulate operators like Amazon's Delivery Service Partners (DSPs). These DSPs are independent businesses that employ drivers to deliver Amazon packages.

Mamdani argued that if Amazon is delivering packages, it should follow the same rules as any other delivery company. However, Amazon is pushing back against the proposal, citing concerns that the legislation could put over 5,000 jobs at risk.

The opposition from 50 small businesses also warns of potential disruption to family-owned companies and established supply chains. In response, Amazon invited City Council members to visit its delivery stations and meet with contractors before voting on the bill.
