Shannon Airport Welcomes Walker Cup Team Ahead of Lahinch Contest
The Shannon Airport in Ireland has welcomed the United States Walker Cup team ahead of this weekend's contest at Lahinch Golf Club. The American team arrived on a United Airlines service from Newark, marking an extraordinary 12 months for golf across the Mid-West.
Shannon Airport is positioning itself as a gateway for international golf visitors, particularly from the highly valuable North American market. The airport has almost 40 golf courses within a 90-minute drive, making it a compelling tourism proposition beyond major championship weeks.
The Walker Cup will be followed by the Amgen Irish Open at Doonbeg and the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in 2027. Susan Simpson, Head of Amateur Championships at The R&A, said that Shannon Airport offers excellent connectivity from key cities in North America and across Europe, making it easier for players, officials, and spectators to attend the event.
Shannon Airport's Commercial Director, Vanessa McTigue, stated that they're proud to welcome players, supporters, and golf fans from around the world as the Mid-West prepares to host a remarkable run of major golfing events over the coming year.
