Shopify Sees Opportunity in Meta's AI Shopping Agent as Amazon Blocks Access
Meta Platforms' new AI agent, Muse, has gained over 5 million downloads since its launch on September 8. The mobile app is designed to help users get things done and make money, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Muse's features include canceling unused subscriptions, finding unclaimed property, and being a smarter online shopper. Shopify, which helps brands build their own e-commerce sites, has fully embraced agentic commerce and is among Muse's partners.
Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, has blocked Muse from its platform, citing concerns about losing high-margin advertising revenue. If more people use AI agents like Muse to shop on Amazon, that could potentially reduce opportunities for advertisers, a significant source of profit growth for the company.
Shopify, however, stands to benefit from increased sales and revenue through its payment platform, ShopPay. The company's merchant solutions are its largest and fastest-growing segment, with growth largely fueled by ShopPay. Shopify may be willing to share some revenue with Meta, creating a win-win situation for both companies.
