Shopify Welcomes AI Shopping Agent While Amazon Blocks It

Meta's AI shopping agent, Muse, was blocked by Amazon from browsing its site on Sunday night. The e-commerce giant cited its conditions of use as the reason for the ban.

Shopify, however, welcomed Muse with open arms, announcing it would partner deeply with the agent to enable agentic checkout with Shop Pay on all Shopify stores.

The move sent Shopify's stock soaring, rising 7% on Monday and another 7% on Tuesday, closing at $147.74 - up about 15% in two days.

When an AI agent like Muse completes a purchase on a Shopify store, the order checks out through Shop Pay, which means Shopify collects its payment processing fees just as it would for any other transaction.
