Silicon Valley Tech Firms Seek Simpler GST Customs Rules in India
Leading technology firms, including Amazon, Accenture, Google, Cisco, and Lam Research, met with India's Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) to discuss simplifying GST and customs rules. The meeting was led by CBIC chairman Vivek Chaturvedi and included a delegation from the Silicon Valley Tax Directors Group (SVTDG), chaired by Shefali Goradia of Deloitte South Asia. The SVTDG represents tax directors and finance executives from over 100 major US technology companies.
The discussions focused on streamlining GST and customs policies to enhance the ease of doing business in India and attract greater investment from Silicon Valley firms. The CBIC highlighted the engagement as a step toward making India's tax and regulatory framework more predictable and business-friendly for global companies looking to expand their operations.
The meeting underscores the growing interest among tech companies in India's investment environment. It comes at a time when India is actively working to improve its regulatory framework to support technology and manufacturing firms seeking to establish a stronger presence in the country.
