Slack Transforms into AI-Powered Work Operating System
Slack is transforming into an AI-powered work operating system where employees collaborate with artificial intelligence (AI) agents in public channels. At the Salesforce annual event Dreamforce 2026, Rob Seaman, executive vice president of Salesforce and head of Slack, announced plans to expand Slack's capabilities beyond a simple messaging platform.
Seaman emphasized that Slack is the gateway to Salesforce and the new work operating system for the AI era. He noted that people and AI agents are sending and receiving over 8 billion messages daily on Slack, which surpasses the number of messages sent daily on X (formerly Twitter).
The core of this overhaul is shifting AI tools from individual use to collaborative tools used together in public channels. This will allow employees to observe and learn from others' usage, raising the company's overall AI capability.
