Sling Therapeutics Secures $123 Million to Advance Thyroid Eye Disease Drug
Sling Therapeutics has secured $123 million in Series C funding to advance its experimental oral drug, linsitinib, for treating thyroid eye disease.
The condition causes inflammation and swelling around the eyes, leading to eye bulging and vision loss. A late-stage trial will be conducted on 130 adults with moderate-to-severe active thyroid eye disease.
Participants will receive either 150mg of linsitinib or a placebo twice daily for 24 weeks. In an earlier trial, linsitinib demonstrated a reduced incidence of eye bulging and showed a differentiated safety profile compared to similar treatments.
If approved, linsitinib would be the first oral drug for thyroid eye disease, offering an alternative to intravenous treatments like Amgen's Tepezza and Viridian Therapeutics' Lumvoa. Sling CEO Ryan Zeidan believes linsitinib can address concerns over hearing loss linked to these biologics.
