Snap Pivots to Enterprise with Nvidia, AWS, and Salesforce
Snap Inc., the company behind the popular social media app, is shifting its focus from consumer markets to enterprise settings. The move involves partnerships with Nvidia, AWS, and Salesforce to integrate Specs, a $2,000 augmented reality (AR) glasses product, into workplace environments.
Evan Spiegel, Snap's CEO, emphasized that Specs is not just a novelty item but a computer designed for hands-on jobs, such as guiding field technicians through equipment fixes with digital instructions and real-time engagement. He cited Microsoft's HoloLens and Meta's Quest VR line as examples of previous attempts at AR glasses that never gained widespread adoption due to their bulkiness.
Nvidia's open-source XR AI platform is a key component in this effort, allowing businesses to leverage its capabilities more easily. Salesforce and Nvidia aim to make it simple for companies to benefit from these platforms. Additionally, Snap is introducing Specs Intelligence, a digital assistant that works across the glasses and on iPhones and Macs, with pricing still being determined.
The move comes amid industry discussions about AI safety concerns, with Spiegel calling for an international response to address actual harms rather than imagined ones. The success of this venture will depend on whether enterprise customers adopt Specs and how deeply they integrate it into their workflows.
