Snap's Workplace AR Glasses Move Signals Shift in Enterprise Tech
Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, has announced its plans to bring augmented reality (AR) glasses into the workplace. The move is part of Snap's SPECS launch this week, which includes partnerships with major enterprise companies like Salesforce, Amazon Web Services, NVIDIA, Trifork, and Hololight.
The AR glasses will enable workers to access data, AI agents, remote expertise, and 3D content in a hands-free computing environment. For example, workers can use the glasses to identify objects, create cases, surface relevant information, and update workflows without needing a separate screen.
Snap is working with AWS to connect SPECS to Amazon Quick, which provides AI assistance for work. The company's retail example shows an associate asking about product locations or stock availability, with the answer appearing in the wearer's field of view.
Magic Leap, another AR technology company, is shifting its focus from first-party devices to become a supplier of waveguides and device-integration expertise for OEMs developing AI display glasses. The move reflects the industry's growing attention on lighter AR and AI-glass form factors.
