Somon Air Takes Delivery of First Boeing 737 MAX Jet

Tajikistan's national carrier Somon Air has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX, marking a significant milestone in the airline's fleet modernization strategy. The 737-8 is the first of two leased airplanes from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) and will be used to fly short- and medium-haul routes across Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

The new aircraft represents a significant upgrade for Somon Air, offering improved range capability and fuel efficiency compared to previous-generation planes. According to CEO Abdulkosim Valiev, the 737 MAX will enable the airline to open new routes with improved economics, given its central geographic location in Tajikistan.

The delivery is part of a larger fleet renewal strategy for Somon Air, which plans to add more efficient and modern Boeing aircraft. The airline has committed to purchasing up to 14 fuel-efficient 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX airplanes from Boeing. With the new 737-8 in service, Somon Air will have greater flexibility to serve high-demand routes while positioning itself for future growth.
