South Korea Leads OLED Supply for Nvidia’s AI Laptops
South Korea has emerged as the leading supplier of OLED panels for Nvidia’s next-generation AI PCs, outpacing Chinese competitors in the early stages of this market. According to reports from October 3, all seven major AI laptops based on Nvidia’s RTX Spark platform feature OLED displays exclusively from Samsung Display and LG Display. Samsung Display provides panels for six models, while LG Display supplies one.
The RTX Spark platform, launched this year, integrates an Arm-based CPU with a Blackwell-based GPU, designed to support on-device AI capabilities such as generative AI and video processing. The AI laptops equipped with Samsung Display panels include the HP OmniBook Ultra 16, OmniBook X 14, Lenovo Yoga Pro 9n, ASUS ProArt P14 and P16, and MSI Prestige N16 Flip AI+. The ASUS ProArt P14 and P16, along with the MSI Prestige N16 Flip AI+, boast peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits, while the HP OmniBook Ultra 16 offers an OLED panel rated at about 1,100 nits for HDR. LG Display contributes a 16-inch tandem OLED panel for the Dell XPS 16 Creator Edition, featuring a resolution of 3,400 by 2,400 pixels, a refresh rate of 48 to 120 hertz, and peak brightness of 1,000 nits.
The AI laptop market is projected to grow rapidly, with TrendForce forecasting that AI laptops will make up 37.5% of the overall laptop market this year, up from 19.3% last year, and reach 84.9% by 2029. Nvidia has entered the PC market with its N1 and N1X processors, developed in collaboration with MediaTek, shifting focus toward AI agent processing and on-device AI models. As displays become more critical for demanding workloads like video editing and gaming, panel power efficiency is also gaining importance.
Chinese companies, including BOE and TCL CSOT, are expanding their OLED production capabilities to compete in the laptop market. However, an industry official noted that South Korean companies still hold an edge in technology and customer responsiveness for premium laptops. The official emphasized that AI PCs require high brightness, low power consumption, and fast response times, making panel technology increasingly vital.
