Southern Designers Share Their Favorite Paint Colors for Historic Homes
When it comes to painting old homes, designers often seek period-appropriate colors that honor their historic past. For three Southern designers, certain paint colors stand out for their timeless appeal and suitability for older homes.
Georgia-based designer Ili Hidalgo of Terracotta Design Build recommends Rookwood Sash Green by Sherwin-Williams, a mid-toned green with cool undertones that pairs well with wood tones. She notes that this color was inspired by a dense forest and is reminiscent of a quintessential Victorian hue.
Alabama designer Ryan Mills of Mark Kennamer Design favors Skimming Stone by Farrow & Ball, a warm gray with subtle pink undertones that adds interest to rooms without demanding too much attention. He suggests varying finishes on walls and trim to create a quiet contrast and highlight the architecture.
