Southwest Airlines Launches ChatGPT Plugin for Flight Booking
Southwest Airlines (LUV) has introduced a new ChatGPT plugin designed to help travelers explore destinations and book flights through the platform. This first-of-its-kind airline plugin is part of a phased AI-powered booking approach developed in collaboration with OpenAI and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The tool aims to streamline the travel planning process by offering a more direct path from inspiration to booking options.
Sabrina Callahan, Chief Digital and Marketing Officer at Southwest Airlines, emphasized the company's commitment to evolving customer travel planning. "Customers are evolving how they plan their travel, and Southwest is helping to shape what comes next," she said. The plugin leverages leading AI and cloud technologies to create a more intuitive travel planning experience.
Lauren Woods, Executive Vice President & Chief Information Officer at Southwest Airlines, highlighted the importance of building a secure and scalable foundation for AI. "We're putting the right technology in place to support what our Customers need today with flexibility to build what they'll need tomorrow," she stated. The airline plans to expand AI-powered capabilities over time to better serve customers throughout their journey.
