SpaceX Targets 10GW Data Centre Capacity by 2027 Amid Microsoft Deal
SpaceX is on track to build and deliver 10GW of datacentre capacity by year-end 2027, according to a deep analysis published in August 2026. The report argues that SpaceX's incremental 6-8GW target for 2027 is realistic, backed by site evaluation and turbine supply-chain data.
The economics are striking: at $50B/GW/year, inference revenue can exceed $100B/GW/year for frontier model providers. OpenAI and Anthropic can each generate over $100B/GW/year selling API inference on GB300 clusters, against roughly $12B/GW/year in rental costs.
Microsoft has signed over 10GW of binding contracts year-to-date, totalling ~$300B in new commitments. A prospective 3GW deal with SpaceX at $50B/GW/year is deemed realistic given Microsoft's compute constraints and the 90-day cancellation policy that eliminates balance-sheet risk.
