SpaceX Teams Up with Nvidia for Orbital AI Data Centers
SpaceX and Nvidia have announced a partnership to design orbital AI data centers. The first satellite, called Starmind AI1, will run on Nvidia's Vera Rubin architecture. Elon Musk stated that SpaceX would exclusively use Nvidia AI architecture moving forward.
The orbital data centers aim to maximize power efficiency by utilizing solar energy in space. However, it is noted that the design must consider factors such as extreme temperatures and lack of gravity. Nvidia's top-of-the-line Vera CPUs and Rubin GPUs will be used for the first satellite.
Musk expects the Starmind satellites to start launching next year, with a proposed megaconstellation of up to 1 million satellites. While this is an ambitious plan, investors should not factor it into their near-term thesis for SpaceX's stock.
