SpaceX vs Amazon: A Tale of Two Space Ambitions
SpaceX and Amazon are two of the most popular stocks in the market right now. They both have space ambitions, but their approaches differ significantly.
SpaceX has a clear lead in space, with its established satellite internet service Starlink and a much larger constellation than Amazon's. This is partly due to its rocket launch business, which allows it to quickly launch new satellites into space. In contrast, Amazon relies on SpaceX for some of its launches and has deals with other companies like Blue Origin.
When it comes to data centers in space, SpaceX is also ahead. The company is working on developing chips that can withstand cosmic radiation and ammonia-based liquid cooling for its orbital data centers.
In addition to their space ambitions, both companies are infrastructure-as-a-service providers. Amazon created this business model roughly two decades ago and remains the market share leader. However, SpaceX's rapid growth in this area is driven by current demand for compute power, which may not be sustainable in the long term.
