SpaceX's Colossus 2 AI Supercomputer to Receive Massive Nvidia Chip Expansion
SpaceX's AI supercomputer, Colossus 2, is set to receive a major Nvidia chip expansion. According to CEO Elon Musk, the system currently has 110,000 GB200 chips and 440,000 GB300 chips.
Musk expects two more waves of chips by year-end: another 220,000 GB300 chips in November and potentially up to 220,000 in late December 'if we get lucky', bringing the total to as many as 660,000 additional GB300 chips.
The Colossus systems are a key part of SpaceX's AI business, which also serves outside customers like Google and Anthropic. The expansion has significant commercial implications, particularly for Google, which has signed agreements with SpaceX to provide computing capacity under which payments will rise to $920 million a month in October as capacity ramps up.
