SPEEA Recommends Approval of Boeing Contracts Amid Strike Fears

The union representing Boeing's engineers and technicians, SPEEA, is recommending approval of two contracts offered by Boeing. The Bargaining Unit Councils (BUCs) for both groups voted in favor of the new agreements, which will go to a membership vote starting on Thursday and continuing until October 1. If approved, the contracts would help avoid a strike that could disrupt Boeing's financial recovery and production ramp-up.

The current production rates for the 737 and 787 are lower than the target rates of 52 per month and 12 per month, respectively, which were achieved in March 2019. The union is hoping to secure gains for its members through the new agreements, but has also noted that there may be limitations to consider.

The BUC for the technicians raised a note of caution, stating that members should 'examine both the advantages and limitations' of the proposed agreement before voting.
