Spirit Airlines Employees Battle Google Over $10 Million Bid for Internal Records

Spirit Airlines' bankruptcy proceedings have led to an unusual dispute over employee data as former workers challenge Google's $10 million bid for the airline's records.

The Association of Flight Attendants, representing 5,500 former Spirit flight attendants, has formally objected to the proposed transaction, citing concerns about the privacy implications for employees.

The union argues that Google's pledge to strip personally identifying details from the data may not be sufficient, as AI systems can potentially reconnect anonymous information with other databases.

The sale includes over 175,000 employee records, including employment contracts, crew pairing time-card records, tax records, email accounts, and Microsoft Teams records.
