St. Bernard Halts New Data Centers Amid Community Concerns
The village of St. Bernard in Ohio has put a temporary hold on new data center developments, approving a 12-month moratorium last week.
This move gives the village council time to assess how data centers could impact the community, according to Mark Wendling, director of public safety and service.
The decision comes as a proposed data center for part of the old Procter & Gamble Ivorydale facility is already under consideration. The proposal calls for a 150,000-square-foot data center with 24-megawatt capacity, owned by CAI Investments.
However, attorney Thomas Breidenstein, who represents CAI Investments, argued that the moratorium could hurt the future of the site and potentially lead to foreclosure. He claimed the company has been looking for a use for the property for over two years and that the data center is the only viable proposal.
