Starbucks Establishes Global Tech Centre in Chennai
US coffee giant Starbucks is setting up a global capability centre (GCC) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The centre will support Starbucks' global operations and create around 800 new jobs for technology professionals. The company cited Chennai's skilled workforce, low employee attrition, and strong infrastructure as key factors behind the decision.
Chennai already hosts several major global capability centres, including those of Citi, Barclays, and American Express. The city has become a hub for these operations due to its availability of skilled talent and modern infrastructure. India itself is home to over 2,100 GCCs employing around 2.36 million people.
Starbucks currently operates around 500 cafes in India through its joint venture with Tata Consumer Products. The investment amount for the new centre has not been disclosed.
