Starbucks Expands Global Footprint with Chennai Capability Centre
US coffee chain Starbucks is planning to set up a global capability centre (GCC) in Chennai, India. The move will create around 800 jobs in the first phase.
The GCC will be used for higher-value functions such as finance and software development, as well as research and development.
This comes just days after US pharmacy chain Walgreens signed a pact with the Tamil Nadu state government to establish its own GCC in Chennai.
Chennai is already home to tech centres of global corporates including Citi, Barclays, and American Express.
