Stocks Rise as Labor Market Shows Signs of Cooling
U.S. stocks closed higher last week after a weak September jobs report reinforced signs that the labor market is cooling down.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.49% to 51,176.96, while the S&P 500 gained 0.73% to 7,722.72 and the Nasdaq climbed 1.00% to 30,807.93.
The jobs report added just 29,000 jobs in September, a sharp slowdown that pointed to softer conditions in the labor market.
Nvidia Corporation was among the companies helping support the index, but investors are now left wondering whether the slowdown in employment is strong enough to change the direction of Treasury yields.
