Stratolaunch Bolsters Hypersonic Test Fleet with Boeing 777 Acquisition
Stratolaunch, a leading developer of hypersonic test vehicles, has expanded its fleet with the addition of a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. The new aircraft will undergo modifications to carry and launch the company's reusable Talon-A vehicles, which are capable of autonomous hypersonic flight.
The 777 will join Stratolaunch's existing twin-fuselage Roc and modified Boeing 747, known as Spirit of Mojave, in its fleet of carrier aircraft. The addition is expected to increase Stratolaunch's flight capacity by approximately 35%, allowing for simultaneous missions and expanded operations worldwide.
Zachary Krevor, Stratolaunch CEO, stated that the company plans to modify the 777 without changing its engines or avionics. 'It flies like a normal 777; our aircrew has already got their 777 type rating,' he said.
