Stratolaunch Expands Hypersonic Testing Capacity with Boeing 777 Acquisition
Stratolaunch has acquired a Boeing 777-200ER to boost its hypersonic testing capacity by 35% for US defense programs. The company, based in Mojave, California, announced the acquisition on September 30th.
The new aircraft will join Stratolaunch's existing carrier aircraft, Roc and Spirit of Mojave, and will be modified to release Talon-A vehicles through its fuselage by 2027. This expansion will give customers more opportunities to schedule missions without relying on a single aircraft.
Stratolaunch has been expanding its flight operations as demand for hypersonic testing increases, driven in part by the success of its Talon-A vehicle, which has completed 10 successful hypersonic flights. The company expects the larger fleet to support operations from different locations and reduce scheduling constraints.
