Sun Group Seeks Strategic Aviation Partnership with Boeing
Sun Group, a leading Vietnamese conglomerate, has taken part in a high-level meeting between General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong and Boeing leaders in New York. The meeting aimed to strengthen aviation capabilities in Vietnam, promote sustainable development, and enhance trade relations between Vietnam and the US.
The meeting also discussed opportunities for strategic cooperation between Vietnam and Boeing, including expanding fleets, increasing domestic value-added, developing supporting industries, and deepening participation in the global aviation supply chain. Vietnam's goal is to develop a comprehensive partnership with Boeing, moving beyond aircraft procurement agreements towards a more substantive and sustainable relationship.
Sun Group is accelerating investment in aviation infrastructure through projects such as the Phu Quoc International Airport expansion, which will increase capacity to 20-24 million passengers per year. The company also plans to develop aircraft hangars and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) complexes in various locations across Vietnam.
The meeting is seen as a significant step towards elevating cooperation between Vietnam and Boeing from a focus on aircraft procurement to comprehensive development of capabilities across the aviation sector. This partnership has the potential to contribute to Vietnam's growth and positioning as a major player in the global aviation industry.
