Supersized Skeletons Continue to Haunt American Neighborhoods
The trend of oversized Halloween skeletons began in 2020 when Home Depot introduced its wildly popular 12-foot Skelly decoration, driving record sales for the home improvement chain that year.
Since then, more than a dozen online communities have formed around supersized skeletons, including a Facebook group with nearly 300,000 members. Sam's Club reported that their 11-foot Reaper has been running ahead of expectations since its June launch and is one of their top ten selling Halloween items.
Kara Deleon, Senior Director of Seasonal Merchandising at Sam's Club, said 'Halloween is now a season, just like Christmas.' She noted that online visits to Sam's Club's Halloween decor product listings were up 67% in July compared to the year before.
