Surface Pro and Laptop Get Refreshed with New Chips
Microsoft has upgraded its smaller Surface Pro and Laptop devices with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X2 Plus chips. The refresh comes with higher price tags, with the 12-inch Surface Pro starting at $1,149.99 and the 13-inch Surface Laptop priced from $1,199.99. Both devices retain their original design and hardware features but now come with faster and more capable processors.
The new chips promise up to 18 percent more efficient battery performance, over 60 percent faster graphics processing, and up to 95 percent faster local AI inferencing on the built-in NPU. Microsoft claims this translates to better battery life and improved performance for users. The Surface Pro 12-inch Second Edition now offers an extra hour of web browsing (up to 13 hours in total), while the Surface Laptop 13-inch Second Edition provides two extra hours of web browsing usage (up to 18 hours in total).
Both devices retain their original display and port selection, but with some upgrades. The displays have been upgraded from 400 nits of brightness to 500 nits, and both support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. However, the Surface Laptop 13-inch still only runs at 60Hz.
