Switzerland Gets Its First IBM Quantum Computer Thanks to New Hub
IBM and Lockheed Martin have established a quantum innovation hub at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. This collaboration will host Switzerland's first IBM Quantum System Two, powered by an IBM Quantum Nighthawk processor.
The hub aims to advance research in quantum sensing for navigation and additive manufacturing, while also supporting Swiss education and workforce development initiatives. The system is expected to be deployed at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center by the end of 2026.
IBM will provide access to its fleet of quantum computers through the cloud, as well as a dedicated IBM Quantum System Two in Switzerland. This collaboration builds on a long-standing partnership between IBM and ETH Zurich, including a recent 10-year effort to advance foundational algorithmic research.
The initiative also includes joint development projects with Lockheed Martin, focusing on quantum sensing applications for navigation and additive manufacturing of metallic alloys.
