Synopsys is expanding its silicon intellectual property business through a multi-year deal with Amazon, which will become the lead customer.

The agreement builds on a 15-year relationship between the two companies and increases Amazon's use of Synopsys technology to design custom chips for general computing and AI workloads.

Under the deal, Amazon will expand its use of Synopsys IP to include designs optimized for particular applications rather than relying on more general-purpose building blocks.

The partnership also involves additional work involving Amazon's Trainium and Graviton processors, as well as developing custom agentic AI capabilities for Amazon's engineering teams.
