Synopsys and Amazon Team Up on Custom Chips
Synopsys is expanding its silicon intellectual property business in partnership with Amazon under a new multi-year agreement. The deal sees Synopsys become the lead supplier of custom chips to Amazon, marking a significant expansion of their over 15-year relationship.
As part of this agreement, Amazon will increase its use of Synopsys electronic design automation (EDA) tools and simulation technologies, used for designing and testing chips before manufacturing. This will enable Amazon to build more complex custom processors for both general computing and AI workloads.
The companies also plan to collaborate on the development of multiphysics solutions for Trainium and Graviton processors, as well as apply AI across silicon-to-system engineering workflows. This will involve designing, analyzing, optimizing, and validating chips and systems using custom agentic AI capabilities.
