Synopsys Scores $1B+ Deal with Amazon Web Services
Synopsys, a leader in chip design software, has signed a multi-year deal worth more than $1 billion with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to license its intellectual property.
The agreement marks a significant move for Synopsys' licensing business, which generated $1.75 billion in revenue last fiscal year and competes against Arm Holdings.
Synopsys designs software that helps companies like Nvidia and Intel create complex computer chips by deciding how to lay out billions of transistors on silicon. The company has also started licensing blueprints for chip parts, which is a growing area of its business.
AWS will use Synopsys' licensed intellectual property to design various types of chips, including central processors and AI chips. As part of the deal, Synopsys will adopt AWS computing and storage services, as well as Amazon Bedrock for building and deploying AI applications.
