Taiwan Tests M1A2T Abrams Tanks in Major Exercise Amid Chinese Invasion Fears

Taiwan's military is conducting a major exercise to test its readiness against a potential Chinese invasion. As part of this drill, troops are operating M1A2T Abrams tanks, which arrived in Taiwan just months ago as part of a $2.2 billion defense package approved in 2019.

The 584th Armored Brigade is putting its tank crews to the test in urban settings, with 108 Abrams tanks being used for the exercise. The M1A2Ts are equipped with advanced features such as metal anti-drone cages and powerful Honeywell AGT1500 gas-turbine engines.

Erich Shih, a military analyst, notes that direct confrontation with Chinese forces would be unwise due to their overwhelming numbers of tanks, including the Type 96 and Type 99. Instead, he advocates for a strategy focused on creating multiple ambush points and adapting positions as battlefield dynamics evolve.
