Take-Two Takes Aim at GTA 6 Leaks with Microsoft and Discord Subpoenas
A New York judge has granted Take-Two Interactive's request to subpoena Microsoft and Discord over leaks related to Grand Theft Auto 6. The orders, which were issued on an ex parte basis, require Discord and Microsoft to hand over account records tied to the hacking group CYBERLEEK.
CYBERLEEK had been monetizing the leaks by charging for polls and soliciting ad placements. They even requested cryptocurrency equivalent to around $164,000 just to initiate contact about those arrangements.
The leak situation is serious enough that Take-Two reportedly lost around $2 billion in market value in its immediate aftermath. Identifying CYBERLEEK's members through Microsoft and Discord records would open the door to civil copyright claims and potentially criminal referrals.
