Tariff Refunds Worth Billions: Who Will Get a Payout?
A $166 billion windfall from President Trump's tariffs has been returned to companies like Amazon and Apple, but will some of that money go directly to consumers?
In February 2026, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of businesses, stating they are owed the refunds. Now, as earnings calls from major companies reveal their tariff refund amounts, it's clear not all will pass on the savings to customers.
Amazon received $600 million in tariff refunds and plans to distribute a portion back to affected customers who paid specific import charges due to the tariffs. However, Amazon has been vague about how much of that money will go to consumers, stating only it will contact those eligible and issue automatic refunds.
Other companies like Walmart and Costco have not announced direct cash payouts but plan to return tariff savings to customers in future prices, rather than past prices. Apple, on the other hand, has stated its $2.2 billion refund will be invested in U.S. manufacturing.
