Tech Execs Flock to White House Dinner as US-China AI Rivalry Heats Up
US technology executives from top companies are set to attend the White House state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit. Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella and Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook will be in attendance, along with Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang and OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman.
The gathering has drawn attention to the AI development race between the US and China, as debate intensifies within the US tech industry over the pace of AI development and safety regulation. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently warned about the risks of AI, including large-scale cyberattacks, and argued that the industry should slow down.
However, the Trump administration has stated that slowing AI development or adopting additional regulation could lead to a competitive disadvantage for the US in the technology sector. China has also criticized calls to slow AI development as fearmongering.
