Tech Executives Weigh In on AI Safety and Spending
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took a hardline stance on AI safety, suggesting that labs unable to contain their own experiments should be shut down. This marked a departure from his usual optimism about AI development.
Despite this, Huang rejected calls for an industry-wide slowdown in AI research, arguing that responsible developers would be punished alongside those taking greater risks.
Huang's comments came as the tech sector faced increased scrutiny over its spending on AI-related projects. Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, unveiled a range of new hardware products at its Meta Connect event, including a $1,299.99 mixed-reality headset and third-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
However, this push into hardware also sparked renewed concerns about the company's massive capital-spending plans, with Fortune reporting that Meta's 2026 expenditure guidance now exceeds the military budgets of every country except the U.S., China, and Russia.
