The tech industry is experiencing significant job losses in 2026, with over 170,000 workers laid off so far. According to reports, the U.S. is at the center of these layoffs, with companies such as Microsoft, Meta, Oracle, Samsung, and Amazon cutting thousands of jobs.

Microsoft has announced another round of layoffs, affecting 4,800 jobs or around 2.1% of its workforce, with the Xbox division being hit the hardest. Oracle has had the biggest impact on layoffs this year so far, cutting 21,000 jobs over the past year, roughly 13% of its workforce.

Many companies are citing the adoption and deployment of AI technologies as a reason for the layoffs, including Intel, Visa, Monday.com, Patreon, Uber, Samsung, Amazon, Bungie, Lucid, Rackspace, Rivian, Robinhood, Salesforce, Groupon, Wix, and Webflow.

Some companies are also looking to restructure and become more efficient, with Visa cutting 2,600 jobs or around 7% of its workforce. Others, such as Patreon, have stated that AI is not the reason for their layoffs, but rather a shift in organizational structure.
