India's Average Data Breach Cost Hits Record ₹25.5 Crore in 2026: IBM Report
India's average data breach cost reached a record ₹25.5 crore in 2026, according to IBM's Cost of a Data Breach Report 2026.
This represents a 15.9% increase from the previous year's ₹22 crore, highlighting the growing financial impact of cyberattacks on Indian organizations.
The report also found that the average data breach in India increased in scale, with organizations losing an average of 39,500 records per breach, up from 38,200 records in the previous year.
Gaurav Agarwal, Vice President of Technology at IBM India & South Asia, noted that 'India's accelerating AI adoption is creating immense opportunities for innovation, but it is also enabling cyber threats to evolve rapidly.'
The report found that organizations without AI and automation in security operations faced an average breach cost of ₹316 million, compared to ₹213 million for those with extensive AI deployment.
