Tech Giants' Earnings Reports Set Stage for October Market Surge
The stock market has survived September, a historically bad month for returns. The S&P 500 actually ended up slightly positive this year, but that sets it up for success in October. Historically, October has averaged about a 0.9% positive return, making it one of the better months.
Several major companies will report their third-quarter earnings results in October, including Alphabet (GOOG), Amazon (AMZN), and Microsoft (MSFT). These tech giants are investing heavily in AI computing capacity and their cloud computing businesses have seen rapid growth. In Q2, Google Cloud's revenue rose 82% year-over-year with a 36% operating margin.
The market will be closely watching these companies' earnings reports for guidance on their capital expenditure budgets for 2027. If they announce significant increases in spending, it could send their shares skyrocketing and pull the rest of the market up with them.
