Tech Giants' Hidden Debt Burden Tops $3 Trillion
Stock markets are showing mixed results in early trading, with crude oil, gold, and silver all experiencing modest gains. Meanwhile, the US dollar is dipping.
A recent article by The Wall Street Journal has raised eyebrows with its estimate of an additional $3 trillion in off-balance-sheet obligations for major tech companies such as Meta Platforms Inc. (META), Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL), and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT).
The extra financial commitments include promises to purchase chips, energy supplies, and other goods in the future, as well as future lease payments.
While bulls argue that future revenue and profits will offset current capital expenditures, bears express concern that these companies are already struggling with cash flow due to on-balance-sheet costs.
