Tech Leaders Push Back Against Proposed AI Model Restrictions
Microsoft and other tech leaders have pushed back against proposed restrictions on open-weight AI models. In an open letter, more than 20 companies, including NVIDIA, Meta, and Palantir, urged U.S. lawmakers to slow down in placing restrictions on these models.
The move comes as the U.S. government considers restricting access to Chinese open-weight AI models due to concerns about intellectual property theft and national security.
Open-weight models allow users to modify and run them on their own infrastructure, which the tech companies argue strengthens competition and benefits the broader economy.
