Tech Leaders Reject Anthropic's Plan for AI Regulation
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg have spoken out against Anthropic's proposal to slow the development of self-improving AI models through government intervention. In a recent interview with CNBC, Huang argued that regulation is unnecessary, saying 'The fact that we need new laws, new antitrust laws, or new regulations, so that these companies could do their fundamental engineering and do it properly before they release products, that is just completely unnecessary.'
Huang believes that the onus is on each company to ensure proper testing of AI models before releasing them. He emphasized the importance of safety in AI development but also highlighted the need for companies to create products and test them properly.
Zuckerberg, who recently delayed Meta's Muse model due to internal safety concerns, echoed Huang's sentiments. In a post on X, Zuckerberg stated that 'I believe the key to building a positive future for everyone is maintaining the right balance of power. This is within our power to do.'
The CEOs' views contrast with those of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and other industry leaders who have advocated for government intervention to address AI safety concerns.
