Tech Stocks Surge as AI Earnings Fuel Wall Street Gains
Wall Street's main indexes rose on Wednesday as upbeat earnings from AI infrastructure firms boosted technology stocks. The Nasdaq outperformed its peers, jumping by 0.64% to 26,614.17.
The S&P 500 information technology sector led the gains, rising 1.2%. Chipmakers Nvidia and Micron Technology gained 2% and 4.4%, respectively. Broadcom was up 1.4%. The broader semiconductor index rose about 3% in its biggest one-day jump in over a week.
CoreWeave surged 20% after lifting its annual capital spending forecast and topping second-quarter earnings estimates. Other AI infrastructure providers, including IREN and Applied Digital, gained 7.8% and 5.5%, respectively. Nebius Group NBIS.O jumped 15.5% on strong second-quarter results.
The earnings from AI-related companies demonstrate robust demand for artificial intelligence solutions as Wall Street giants continue to invest heavily in scaling up their AI capabilities. The tech-heavy Nasdaq is now within 2% of a record high, while the S&P 500 and Dow have already reached new peaks last week due to upbeat earnings.
The situation in the Middle East remained volatile, with Iran's senior source stating that no progress had been made in talks to revive the interim deal agreed in June. Elevated energy prices continued to raise rate-hike bets, but inflation data released on Wednesday supported bets for a rate hold by the Federal Reserve.
