Tempo Fans Praise Team Despite Home Finale Loss to Liberty
The Toronto Tempo's inaugural season came to a close at home, but their supporters remained upbeat despite the team's loss to the New York Liberty in their final regular-season game. The sold-out crowd of 8,200 at Coca-Cola Coliseum gave the Tempo a standing ovation after their 106-69 defeat.
Forwards Laura Juskaite and Kiki Rice led the way for the Tempo with 28 points and 19 points respectively, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Liberty's strong performance. Breanna Stewart, who had played just 22 minutes in the game after leading the US team to a world championship title last weekend, scored a game-high 27 points.
The Tempo struggled without their top players Brittney Sykes and Marina Mabrey, both of whom were sidelined due to injuries. This was the team's sixth straight loss and their 18th defeat in 19 games at home.
The Tempo finished with a record of 11-31 this season, while the Liberty secured a spot in the playoffs with their win.
