Tempo Finish Strong Despite Inaugural Season Disappointment
The Toronto Tempo wrapped up their inaugural season with a disappointing home finale loss but still received enthusiastic support from fans. Despite the lopsided outcome, the crowd remained engaged throughout the game, giving the team a standing ovation during a tribute video to the first season.
Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello acknowledged that this was one of the few games where she was disappointed with their effort in the second half but praised the team's resilience and togetherness. The Tempo finished the season with an average home crowd of 10,828, consistently selling out Coca-Cola Coliseum.
The team faced numerous challenges this season, including injuries to key players like Brittney Sykes and Marina Mabrey, who is fifth in WNBA scoring with 20.8 points per game. Despite these setbacks, the Tempo performed well in their final games, including a 19-point outing by rookie Kiki Rice.
As the team looks forward to next season, Brondello emphasized the importance of developing their young players, particularly Juskaite and Rice, who showed promise throughout the season. The Tempo will conclude their inaugural season with road games against the Chicago Sky on Tuesday and the Connecticut Sun on Thursday.
