Ternus Takes Over: Apple's New CEO Faces Daunting Task
After nearly 15 years at Apple's helm, Tim Cook is set to step down as CEO on September 1. He will be succeeded by Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternus.
Cook's tenure saw a significant increase in Apple's market value, from around $350 billion to over $4.5 trillion. This growth equates to compounding at about $32 million per hour for nearly 15 years, according to Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan.
Cook also initiated a massive stock buyback program during his tenure, with Apple repurchasing as much as $877 billion worth of shares. This made the company the largest buyback operator globally.
The Motley Fool notes that this leadership change may signal a strategic shift for the company, with Ternus potentially allocating more capital to R&D or acquisitions rather than continued buybacks.
